Utbah ibn Harith relates: I joined the afternoon Prayer led by the Holy Prophet (sa) in Medina. The moment he concluded the service he stood up quickly and proceeded to one of his chambers stepping across the shoulders of the worshippers. People were perplexed by such haste. When he came back he perceived that people were wondering what had called him away so urgently. So he said: I recalled that there was left with me a piece of silver (or gold) and this disturbed me. I have now arranged for its distribution (Bokhari).

There was left with me a piece of silver (or gold) which was meant for charity. I was disturbed that it should remain with me overnight. 89. Jabir relates that one man asked the Holy Prophet (sa) on the day of Uhud: Tell me, where shall I be if I am killed in battle today? He answered: In Paradise. The man threw away the few dates he held in his hand, plunged into battle and fought on till he was killed (Muslim).

FALSE DETENTION OF AHMADI CHILDREN IN DEGRADING CONDITIONS CONTINUES

As reported previously four Ahmadi children and one adult were arrested on blasphemy charges in District Layyah Pakistan on 28th January 2009 (FIR No 46/09). Over three months later they continue to be falsely imprisoned in conditions that are unsanitary and inhumane.

The accused, Muhammad Irfan (14), Tahir Imran (16), Tahir Mehmood (14), Naseer Ahmad (14) and Mr Mubashar Ahmed (45) are accused of writing the name of the Prophet of Islam (peace be upon him) on the walls of a toilet at a local mosque. Despite the complete lack of any incriminating evidence they continue to be detained on ‘judicial remand’ which has been extended a number of times by a local judge on request from the police.

Living Conditions
Although arrested in District Layyah the accused are all being held at a prison in the distant city of DG Khan. The authorities are making it extremely difficult for any of the children to be visited by members of their family and the fact that they are being held in DG Khan makes access even more problematic.
The four children accused are being detained in one cell. The only adult Mr Mubashar Ahmed is being kept in a separate cell and the children are not allowed to see him. The children are kept in the cell continuously twenty four hours a day. Due to the hot weather the cells become extremely hot but there are no fans present or any other means of cooling. Muhammad Irfan is suffering with typhoid whilst Mr Mubashar Ahmed suffers with severe asthma.

Education of children
It goes without saying that the education of the four children is gravely suffering. Muhammad Irfan has been expelled by his school on the basis of these charges without any internal investigation. The other children who were due sit their important Matriculation examinations had to prepare and indeed sit the exam whilst in prison. Their further educational and professional careers are dependent upon the results of these exams.

Lack of due process
The arrest and detention of the accused have been conducted contrary to the very laws under which they are charged. According to the rules regulating section 295-C of the Pakistani Penal Code, police officials, not less in rank the a senior superintendent, are obligated to thoroughly investigate accusations of blasphemy before presenting criminal charges. However due to the pressure of extremist Muslim groups this process was completely ignored.

Sometime after the arrests were made the senior superintendent of police (SSP) of another district, Mr Pervez Rathore, was assigned to conduct an investigation into the matter. Following investigation the SSP found that charges were completely false and that the accused ought to be immediately released. This report was sent to the relevant authorities at the end of March 2009 yet it has been conveniently ignored as a result of pressure from Mullahs.

External Reports
A number of respected organisations and individuals have highlighted the case of the Ahmadis arrested in District Layyah. The arrests have been condemned by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan; Asma Jahangir the UN Special Rapporteur and the US Commission on International Religious Freedom.
Furthermore the Asian Human Rights Commission earlier today issued an Urgent Appeal regarding the matter. Commenting upon the situation faced by the accused it states:

“They are in dangerous health conditions in the jail and their parents are not allowed to visit them according to jail policy. One, Mohammad Irfan son of Mukhtar Ahmed, 15 years of age came down with typhoid fever due to the jail’s inhuman, unsanitary conditions. His health is in a precarious state with the jail authorities not allowing him to see a doctor. The detention of the four children has been proved illegal. The senior police officer has submitted a report to the government of Punjab province that the children are innocent and charges of blasphemy as arrested, accused persons are baseless. It is reported that the government of Punjab did not want to annoy Muslim fundamentalists, who are allies of the provincial government, as they will create problems for the government.”

Malaysian Extremists Deny Ahmadiyya Religious Freedom

TORONTO, April 30 /CNW/ – Malaysia is falling prey to religious
extremists and further eroding its image as a moderate Islamic state. In its
latest religious edict issued on April 24, 2009, the Majlis Agama Islam
Selangor (MAIS), the highest religious authority in the State of Selangor
second only to the Sultan, prohibits the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in
Malaysia from praying in and otherwise peacefully utilizing their
Bait-us-Salam (House of Peace) Mosque. Failure to comply with this edict will
result in a criminal sentence of up to 1 year imprisonment and/or a fine of up
to RM 3,000.
Responding to the news, Lal Khan Malik, President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim
Community in Canada, said, “It saddens me to note that instead of informing
the world of the peaceful teachings of Islam, the Malaysian authorities have
taken to denying the basic human rights of Muslims. This is against the
fundamental Qur’anic injunction of ‘There is no compulsion in matters of
faith’ (2:257).”
“The edict in Malaysia is in sharp contrast to the freedom of expression
enjoyed by Canadian Ahmadi Muslims who were able to construct Canada’s largest
mosque without any restriction or hindrance from government authorities,” he
added.
This denial of the religious freedom of Malaysian Ahmadiyya Muslims and
the forbidding of the peaceful practicing of their faith in this manner
constitutes a gross and flagrant violation of international human rights
standards.
This edict follows the edict issued in 1975 by the MAIS that declared all
Ahmadiyya Muslims as non-Muslim. This edict was accompanied by the threat that
if the Ahmadiyya did not “repent and return to the true teachings of Islam,
they should be killed by the Imam which is the King.” At the time, recognizing
that the genocide of the Ahmadiyya was not legally possible, instead, certain
of its members’ rights and privileges were curtailed.

The Ahmadiyya are peaceful, faithful and law-abiding Muslims. However,
due to differing views on certain matters of doctrinal interpretation,
extremists seek to impose their own rigid interpretations on pain of violent
excommunication. Recent developments in Malaysia indicate that it is falling
prey to the same extremist influences as those existing in Pakistan and
Indonesia by succumbing to the legalization and infliction of terror upon the
Ahmadiyya thereby violating international standards and seriously threatening
its so-called status as a moderate Islamic state.

NEW YORK, April 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — It is with great regret that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat confirms that the Selangor Council of Islamic Religion has issued a notice ordering the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat Malaysia (AMJ Malaysia) to stop offering Friday Prayers (‘Jumma’) at the National AMJ Headquarters, the Bait-us-Salam Mosque. Various other activities have also been banned under the terms of the notice.

The Selangor Council of Islamic Religion which is also known as ‘Majlis Agama Islam Selangor’ (MAIS) is the highest Islamic authority in Selangor State apart from the Sultan. On 24 April 2009 several MAIS officers came to the Bait-us-Salam Mosque and issued a notice under the ‘Selangor State Enactment on the Administration of Islamic Law 2003.’ The notice states:

AMJ Malaysia no longer has permission to offer Friday prayers, or permission to use Bait-us-Salam as a Mosque or conduct any activities related to a Mosque.

A notice has been placed around the Mosque stating ‘Qadiani Bukan Agama Islam.’ This translates as ‘Ahmadiyyat is not an Islamic Religion.’

In its order the MAIS has stated that failure by the AMJ to comply with the terms of the order will result in imprisonment of up to one year and/or a fine up to RM3000.

In an era where Freedom of Religion ought to be taken for granted as a basic human right it is of great concern that a State-sanctioned body has taken it upon itself to ban a peace-loving organization from worshipping within the confines of its own premises. The International Community is urged to take action to assist in repealing the notice issued by the MAIS.

Minara-tul-Masih (Minaret of the Promised Messiah)

One of the signs of the advent of the Promised Messiah as described by The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) was that he will be raised near a white minaret east of Damascus. Although the real meaning of the minaret is symbolic. It was the practice of Promised Messiah to endeavour to fulfill every prophecy in its literal form as well. For this reason and in accordance with Divine Instructions he laid the foundation stone of this minaret on Friday 13th, March 1903.

In his life time it was raised to 6 feet, then due to lack of funds the work on the structure had to be suspended. It was resumed by the Khalifa-tul-Masih II by laying a brick again on 27th November, 1914. The structure was completed, in the cost of Rs. 5,963 (excluding the 6 feet of first phase) in early 1916. It has three stages, 92 steps and the total height is about 105 feet. The clock was fixed in 1933. The minaret was designed by Syed Abdul Rashid and supervision of the second phase of construction was carried out by Qazi Abdul Rahim Bhatti.

In 1938-39, during the time of Khalifa-tul-Masih II, the minaret was coated with plaster of white marble. It was veneered with white marble slabs in the total cost of Rs. 8,021,35.51 in 1980-81 in the time of Khalifa-tul-Masih III. Qadian is situated to the east of Damascus and the white minaret is the sign of peace and proclaims the Advent of the Prince of Peace, The Promised Messiah, Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad.
